Lions Camp Notes: Best Cleared to Play

Lions running back Jahvid Best was cleared to return to practice several days after suffering a concussion during Friday's win over Cleveland. More injury notes and quotes from Tuesday.

ALLEN PARK -- Kyle Vanden Bosch, who hasn’t practiced this week, wasn’t on the field for the Lions on Tuesday.  The veteran defensive end has a sore shoulder from Detroit’s 30-28 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Friday.
Acknowledging the absence, head coach Jim Schwartz didn’t appear concerned.
“He’s got a sore shoulder from the game,” said Schwartz.  “He actually had a doctor’s appointment today otherwise he would have been out here.  I don’t think it’s anything more than short term.”
Also not practicing was running back Jahvid Best, who suffered a minor concussion in Friday’s contest.
Schwartz offered good news, expecting Best to be practicing again shortly.
“Jahvid, I believe was cleared this morning,” said Schwartz.  “He had some stuff he was doing getting his blood pressure up on the exercise bike.  He’s fine -- so hopefully we’ll have him back on the practice field tomorrow.  But with an eye toward not playing in the game.  We’ll be in shorts tomorrow so it’ll be a good chance for him to run and get his legs but not be hit. “
Both Vanden Bosch and Best are likely to miss Saturday’s preseason contest with the New England Patriots.
Calvin Johnson and Gosder Cherilus also sat out today.
Cherilus had micro-facture knee surgery during the offseason and today was a scheduled rest day for the tackle.  Johnson still has soreness in his shoulder but the injury isn’t serious.
“Calvin practiced yesterday,” said Schwartz.  “He’s still sore in his shoulder.  It’s not so much getting hit, it’s the adbrupt movement of running and bringing his hands up to catch.  So we just try to give him some time off.  He’s running like crazy but not abrupt and stuff like that.  He’s day to day.”
Schwartz said he was “hopeful” for both players availability on Saturday. Recommended Stories
