Before the draft (April 25-27), we take a look at the most likely candidates the Lions could select in round one. Today, we evaluate Ezekiel Ansah.

With the NFL draft around the corner, the Detroit Lions are preparing for the last significant opportunity to improve their roster before the kickoff of the 2013 season.

The Lions have surprised with some of their selections over the last few years and predicting which direction they take may not be an exact science.

Before the draft (April 25-27), we take a look at the most likely candidates the Lions could select in round one. Today, we evaluate Ezekiel Ansah.

Ezekiel Ansah, Defensive End, BYU

Why the Lions Would Be Interested

In Ansah, the Lions would be getting a defensive end that has size, speed and strength.

Ansah has all the raw talent to be a dominant pass rusher in the NFL and the Lions are in the market for one of those, so it may seem as this could be a strong match.

The soon-to-be 24 year old has the speed to play the wide-nine technique that the Lions employ and is diverse enough to give the team flexibility in creative packages.

At six-foot-five and 271 pounds, Ansah is a tantalizing prospect for any team.

Why the Lions Would Pass

The Lions appear to be in win-now mode and Ansah is not the most NFL-ready prospect available.

Ansah began playing football in 2010, and will need some work to reach his full potential while learning the nuances of the position.
