LIONS STOCK EXCHANGE:
The first preseason game is always a watermark in determining who will "stick and
stay" with the club and avoid the dreaded "ziggy." Who's stock is rising
and who's is falling.
Scotty Anderson - Rising: With all the off season turmoil, many, (self
included) thought Anderson was the odd man out. In the words of Lee Corson "Not so
fast, my friend," Anderson turned in a sparkling performance on Saturday against
Pittsburgh, catching the football, blocking downfield and generally showing none of the
cowardice that got Matt Millen into trouble last year. Anderson was listed as a starter
with Charles Rogers out, opposite Bill Schroeder. Could Anderson move past Schroeder on
the depth chart?
Luke Staley - Rising: After a dismal few back-to-back days, Staley
turned it up big time on Saturday, leading all backs with 30 yards rushing. Staley is back
in the mix and the heat is on some others to become productive.
Shawn Bryson - Falling: If Bryson isn't able to show something this week,
the staff will have to think long and hard about keeping him on after they break camp
Thursday. They know Artose Pinner is on the roster and someone has to go.
Avon Cobourne - Falling: After an impressive two weeks, Cobourne pulled a
hamstring. A longshot to make the team with so many back Cobourne can't afford to be hurt,
he needs to be 100% to have a shot. He'd better recover quickly.
Blue Adams -Rising: Anytime a corner deflects three passes in a game, the
coaches take notice. Blue made the most of his playing time and he's back in the mix.
Eddie Drummond - Falling: Once a lock to be the team's return man,
Drummond's lingering injury status has the coaches non-comittal. “We’ve got to
get him healthy," said coach Mariucci. "He’s got to get out here and
practice and be healthy and then he can contribute. Right now I haven’t seen much of
him at all.”
Cory Redding - Rising Fast: Redding could be the starter at the end of
camp, to the detriment of Luther Elliss. “We are just working through the camp right
now," said Mariucci. We’ve got Shaun Rogers, we’ve got Pritchett in there,
we’ve got some guys who have been starters. He’s pushing for a job on our depth.
He’s working his way into the playing rotation right now.”
