An MRI revealed that Lions' quarterback Jeff Garcia suffered a broken fibula during the first half of Friday's contest with the Buffalo Bills.

The injury is reminiscent of the break suffered by fullback Cory Schlesinger earlier in the preseason.

Garcia, according to Lions' head coach Steve Mariucci, will miss "several" weeks, but the coach does expect him to return at some point this season. Garcia may also have an ankle sprain, which the team is attempting to diagnose presently.

The injury occured during a broken play early in the second quarter, when Garcia scrambled for a first down. After being wrestled to the field, the veteran quarterback was slow to get up -- triggering the Lions to summon the medical cart to escort Garcia off the field.

Rookie quarterback Dan Orlovsky turned in a strong performance in relief of Garcia, and will enter the season opener as the backup to starter Joey Harrington. It is unknown whether or not the Lions will sign additional help at the position over the weekend.
