Lions' GM Matt Millen informed reporters on Tuesday that he intends on returning to his post for the 2007 season -- in spite of a six-year tenure defined by failure and countless pleas by fans for his removal from office.

No one ever accused Lions' president and general manager Matt Millen of being a quitter.

They've just asked him to.

Once again, Millen spurned both the requests and attempts on his position in Detroit, informing reporters on Tuesday that he intends on returning to his post for the 2007 season -- in spite of a six-year tenure defined by failure and countless pleas by Lions fans for his removal from office.

"I'll never quit," Millen told the The Detroit News. "I can't do that. I don't even consider that.

"It's the way I'm made."

Just prior to his quasi-media briefing, Millen met with Lions' owner William Clay Ford Sr, who asked him to return for another season atop the franchise -- if he wanted to.

Since taking over in Detroit in 2001, the Lions have managed an embarassing 24-72 won-loss margin, and have seen top-flight draft choices such as Charles Rogers, Joey Harrington and -- most recently -- Mike Williams become organizational flops and excruciating set backs.

Added Millen on his persistence to retain his position: "You're given a job, regardless of what it is. You keep on working and trying to get the thing done."
