Draft Analysis: FB Jerome Felton

With their second of two fifth-round picks (146th overall), the Detroit Lions added more beef to the offensive backfield with the selection of fullback Jerome Felton. New offensive coordinator Jim Colletto has always been a run-oriented coach, and it's likely that the team will rely upon a lead blocker to pave the way for tailbacks Tatum Bell and rookie Kevin Smith. With only Jon Bradley under contract, the need for a player like Felton was paramount.

A natural athlete, Felton was the second-rated fullback by former scout and Scout.com analyst Tom Marino, making this selection a true 'value' pick. While he certainly has the fortitude to go head-to-head with linebackers (he reminds many of a young Cory Schlesinger), Felton is also incredibly versatile, pairing good hands with his punishing, inside running style.

Talented back. well built with good hands & inside running skills (more natural then expected). Will break secured tackles inside, has the feet to avoid & can move the pile. Not polished as a blocker, but is willing & gets after people. More then adequate on pass protection. Very functional within the passing game. Excellent on flat, screens a& arrow routes. More of a one-back then a pure FB .Has strong early second day draft potential. 67 career TD's! Round # 4.
