With the first pick in the fifth round, the Lions (who traded up to nab the selection) added Wake Forest's Kenny Moore to their stable of receivers. Much more inside.

It wouldn't be a Detroit Lions draft without Matt Millen picking a wide receiver.

With the first pick in the fifth round, the Lions (who traded up to nab the selection) added Wake Forest's Kenny Moore to their stable of receivers. Interestingly, though, Moore is not a speed burner nor tall (5'10, 195 pounds), but that doesn't mean he won't double as a return man. Moore has great hands, was responsible for most of Wake Forest's offensive production in 2007, and is simply dependable: a tag that hasn't always applied to receivers picked by this franchise.

Although the Lions have several young, gifted receivers (see: Brandon Middleton, Ron Bellamy) under contract through 2008, they haven't quite found the over-the-middle, reliable target that they will need once Shaun McDonald departs. Moore could work his way up the latter with an impressive training camp, watching (and, occasionally, spelling) Mike Furrey and McDonald during the year.

Keep an eye on Moore, whose last name shouldn't be easily forgotten by long-time Lions fans.

Below is Tom Marino's scouting report on Kenny Moore ...

13. Kenny Moore, WR, Wake Forest
40: 4.50v Ht: 5106v Wt: 195v Rating: 1.415
Productive and very tough inside receiver. Former RB with very good hands (will catch on contact). Ran predominately choice routes between the numbers with no fear or apprehension. Showed running strength and was creative after the catch. Runs well, but I question whether he has the juice to separate vertically at the next level. A highly dependable return man who should factor at the pro level as a multi-purpose inside slot receiver. Round 4 - 5.
