Lions Cut Ikaika Alama-Francis; Name P.S.

The Detroit Lions cut former second-round pick Ikaika Alama-Francis on Sunday, according to a team release, and also developed its practice squad

Alama-Francis was considered a "project" pick by Matt Millen and former head coach Rod Marinelli in 2007, but the former Hawaiian native was never able to produce consistently.

Alama-Francis, along with cornerback Cletis Gordon and receiver Adam Jennings, were also dropped by the club.

The moves come just a day after the Lions trimmed 19 players to reach the league's mandated roster limit.

Several of those players, however, re-joined the team Sunday afternoon. The Lions re-signed rookie's Carson Butler (TE), Zack Follett (LB), Dan Gronkowski (TE) and Lydon Murtha (OT), along with John Broussard (San Jose State), center Dan Gerberry, and running back Tristan Davis to form the team's practice squad.

Only Calvin Johnson and Drew Stanton remain from the franchise's 2007 draft. As noted by the Detroit News last week, the team harbors just one entire pick (Ernie Sims) between the 2002 and 2006 draft class.
