Either Lions' coach Jim Schwartz doesn't share the same confidence as running back Kevin Smith, or he doesn't want to tip his hand to the Chicago Bears in advance of Sunday's game.
Logic would suggest the latter.
Smith, who left last week's win over Washington with a shoulder injury, was adamant following Friday's practice that he would not miss Detroit's divisional tilt at Soldier Field.
"I'm going to play," he told mlive's Tom Kowalski. "It's football, so I'm sure I'll have to endure some pain, but it's good enough to go.
"I feel healthy enough to play at a high level."
Schwartz wasn't as certain.
"We’ve still got a long way to go, we’ll know a little bit more tomorrow, maybe a little bit more Sunday morning," said Schwartz. "It may be a situation where we take him out before the game and see how he responds to doing that. We’ve done that before with players.”
Regardless, Smith did participate in the team's last two practices, albeit somewhat limited. He was held out of much of the team's hitting drills.
