DL Shaun Smith: Signs One-Year Deal by Nate Caminata of RoarReport.com, August 10, 2009 at 5:44pm ET
Shaun Smith Profile
The Lions came to terms with NFL journeyman Shaun Smith on Monday.
The versatile defensive tackle will be a much-needed addition in Detroit, which is short across the defensive line, especially given the season-ending injury to DE Jared DeVries on Monday.
Terms of the deal were not available. Smith was just released Sunday night by the Browns.
Smith has spent time in five different NFL cities including New Orleans, Cincinnati, and most recently Cleveland, since joining the league in 2003 as an undrafted free-agent. He accrued 48 tackles and two sacks in 2007, his most productive campaign. The Lions still have an interest in veteran defensive end Kevin Carter, who was recently spurned by the New England Patriots for the Raiders' Derrick Burgess.
