He's a Lion: Reggie Bush Signs With Detroit

Reggie Bush agreed to terms on a reported four-year deal with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday.

The Detroit Lions have signed a playmaker.

According to various reports, the team has signed free-agent running back Reggie Bush to a four-year contract on Wednesday. Bush was on Detroit's radar before the free-agency period began, as the team needed a versatile runner and pass receiver out of the backfield.

Bush looks to fulfill that need.

The former second-overall pick spent his first five seasons with the New Orleans Saints before joining Miami in 2011. He is a potent runner, eclipsing 1,000 yards in 2011 and nearing that mark in 2012, but is an equally gifted receiver.

Although his numbers dropped off in 2012 (35 catches, 292 yards), Bush had 88 and 73 receptions in his first two seasons within a pass-happy Saints offense. He'll look to fill a similar role in Detroit, replacing Jahvid Best, who never completely recovered from a series of concussions.

A major part of the team's offense is predicated on the running back's ability to serve as receiving threat.

Bush was reportedly offered the team's starting spot in the backfield, previously manned by Mikel Leshoure in 2012.

The signing of Bush caps a flurry of activity for the team on Wednesday, which also re-signed cornerback Chris Houston and inked defensive tackle Jason Jones (Seattle).
